SEEDFOLKS is the fictional story of how an inner-city vacant lot is slowly transformed into a neighborhood garden.  Thirteen voices tell the story of how they came to the garden: Kim, a young Korean girl gardening in memory of her father; Ana, who moved into the neighborhood in 1919, when she was four, and the neighborhood was "mainly Rumanians back then"; Curtis, who planted tomatoes for Lateesha; Amir, who grew eggplants, onions, carrots, and cauliflower the garden reminding him of a Persian rug from his childhood in India; Maricela, a 16-year-old, pregnant, Mexican girl, gardening to learn how to take care of something living before her baby arrives...

Adults and Teens are invited to join us for a special SeedFolks Reading Circle.  We will read SeedFolks aloud to one another (the books will be provided).  It is a short book and can be read in one gathering.  What a great way to invite summer! A light meal will be provided! Please RSVP 414.687.0122 by Friday, May 9th, if you plan to attend.

FALL COMMUNITY GARDEN TOUR:  A Success!

On Saturday, September 8, 2007, Milwaukee Urban Gardens hosted our first annual “Fall Community Garden Tour”.  The event was a great success with over forty people in attendance.  Community members met at Garden Park in Riverwest and traveled to four community gardens located throughout Milwaukee.  Gardeners from Greenfolks Garden, Spencer Community Garden, Hocking Heritage Garden, and Village Roots Garden graciously hosted a personal tour of their community gardens.  The tour concluded at Garden Park where we enjoyed homemade appetizers and live music by Jason Behr, a classical guitarist.

A special thanks to Greenfolks Garden, Hocking Heritage Garden, Spencer Community Garden, Village Roots Garden, The Friends of Garden Park and Guardians of Greenspace for their work to help coordinate this event!
