Milwaukee Urban Gardens is a nonprofit land trust dedicated to protect, create and develop community gardens and open green space in Milwaukee.

Spencer Community Garden

Land for Spencer Garden was donated to Milwaukee Urban Gardens (MUG) in 2003 by the Spencer family after a fire irreparably damaged their home. The Spencer family wanted the land to become a place for neighbors to grow fresh food and flowers and serve as permanent green space in the 30th and Hampton neighborhood.

In 2005, MUG partnered with the Daniels – Mardak Boys & Girls Club, to break ground for the garden and start a ‘gardening club’ to teach urban youth how to grow and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables. Today, the garden serves over thirty youth from the neighborhood and four area Boys & Girls Club(s). Additionally, the garden provides fresh greens, herbs, and flowers to over twenty families in the surrounding neighborhood.

Spencer Community Garden has become a place where youth can explore nature and give back to their community!
