Growing Power
Growing Power is a national nonprofit organization and land trust supporting people from diverse backgrounds, and the environments in which they live, by helping to provide equal access to healthy, high-quality, safe and affordable food for people in all communities. Growing Power implements this mission by providing hands-on training, on-the-ground demonstration, outreach and technical assistance through the development of Community Food Systems that help people grow, process, market and distribute food in a sustainable manner.

Master Gardeners
Master Gardeners are volunteers trained by UW-Extension specialists and agents in
many aspects of horticulture. In return for their training, Master Gardeners
volunteer to help with educational programs in horticulture and a wide variety of

Rent a Garden
2008 is the 36th year that Extension has rented gardens in Milwaukee County. For
urban residents who do not have a place to garden, the garden plot rental program
provides an opportunity to grow nutritious food, save grocery money, enjoy some
exercise and share family traditions. To learn more about renting a garden, visit the

Master Beekeeping & the Urban Apiculture Institute
Milwaukee County UW-Extension & the Urban Apiculture Institute have started
Wisconsin's first Master Beekeeper program. In 2008, we secured a permit for an
apiary at the community gardens in Wauwatosa and conducted our first Master

"Eat the View!" is a campaign to urge President-elect Obama to replant a large organic Victory Garden on the First Lawn with the produce going to the White House kitchen and to local food pantries.
"Eat the View" is coordinated by Kitchen Gardeners International, a Maine-based 501c3 nonprofit network of 10,000 gardeners from 100 countries who are inspiring and teaching more people to grow some of their own food.
Kitchen Gardeners International is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in Maine, USA with friends from around the world. Our mission is to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve greater levels of food self-reliance through the promotion of kitchen gardening, home-cooking, and sustainable local food systems. In doing so, KGI seeks to connect, serve, and expand the global community of people who grow some of their own food. They have a great education/advise page.
